Cats are indeed prone to experiencing symptoms like convulsions and rapid breathing when excessively startled, and in severe cases, this can even lead to sudden death. These are all manifestations of a cat's stress response. If your cat exhibits these signs, try to let it rest quietly for a while without disturbing it excessively. Provide a comfortable living environment to help it regulate itself. However, if the situation is severe, it is advisable to seek immediate veterinary care.

Cats are naturally vigilant and easily frightened by external stimuli. When a cat is startled, it may activate its fight-or-flight response, causing a rapid drop in immunity. This can lead to elevated blood pressure, increased blood viscosity, and the formation of blood clots. Some cats might experience an increased heart rate and myocardial ischemia (reduced blood flow to the heart muscle). More severe stress responses can cause cats to refuse food, potentially leading to liver damage. In the most extreme cases, strong or sustained stress responses can result in death. What to Do When a Cat Shows Signs of Stress

1. Avoid forcing the cat out of its hiding place. Let it stay there quietly, without interruption. Move its food and water bowls closer to it so it can eat and drink more easily.

2. Provide your cat with clean drinking water and a comfortable cat bed, allowing it to regulate itself. However, this does not mean ignoring your cat completely. Keep a close eye on its eating and elimination habits. If the symptoms seem severe, consult a veterinarian.

3. A frightened cat will likely experience a loss of appetite, or in severe cases, refuse to eat at all. If your cat refuses food, it’s important to take action to ensure it receives adequate nutrition. Try hand-feeding the cat.
