Why Bengal Cats Are Not Cuddly and How Long Until They Bond with You?

Bengal cats' aloofness, or lack of cuddliness, can often be attributed to several factors including hot weather, their individual personality, a lack of security, unfamiliarity with you, irritating scents, and forced interactions.

1. During the summer, when the weather is hot, cats may feel even warmer when being cuddled, leading them to avoid close contact.

2. Some cats simply aren't naturally affectionate; every cat has a unique personality.

3. Kittens often tend to be very clingy, but this behavior might change as they reach adulthood, where they can become more independent and even appear aloof.

4. If you frequently leave your cat alone at home, it can develop separation anxiety, eroding its sense of security and making it less likely to seek your affection.

5. Initially, cats may not be affectionate because they aren't familiar with their new owner. Building a bond can be achieved through hand-feeding treats and gently petting them to foster a stronger connection.

6. Cats have an extremely sensitive sense of smell. Strong or unpleasant scents, such as onions, chili, or medicated oils, can deter them from wanting to get close to you.

7. If petting or handling becomes too rough, it may cause your cat discomfort or pain. Over time, they might begin to avoid interactions with you and become less cuddly.

8. Forced interactions can also cause a cat to become less affectionate.

If a cat is unwilling to interact with its owner but is forced to anyway, it may cause them to have negative emotions and will eventually make them not want to be close to their owners.

How Long Does It Take for a Bengal Cat to Bond with Its Owner?

Typically, a kitten will become familiar with its surroundings and owner within one to two months of being in the new environment and will then start to recognize you as its owner. Offering them treats like meat and engaging in play will deepen your bond with your cat. When introducing a new kitten to a new place, try not to make direct contact immediately, as that can lead to stress and impede the bonding process.
