Are Silver Chinchilla and British Blue Cats Considered Mixed Breed? And How Much Can They Sell For?

Strictly speaking, mating a silver chinchilla with a British blue cat does result in a mixed breed. Although both silver chinchillas and British blue cats are considered British Shorthairs, they are not the same breed. Silver chinchillas are bred from British Shorthairs and Chinchilla cats, so their offspring are considered mixed breed cats.

Genetically, both silver chinchillas and British blue cats are British Shorthairs. However, from a strict definition, they are not the same breed. Any cats that are not the same breed and mate produce mixed-breed kittens. Silver chinchillas are a result of breeding between British Shorthairs and Chinchilla cats. Therefore, kittens from a silver chinchilla and a British blue are also considered a British Shorthair mix. However, the color of these kittens is uncertain and can be blue, tabby, or even orange. Therefore, selective breeding needs to be approached scientifically and with caution.

Market Price of Mixed Silver Chinchilla Kittens

Even if the parents are purebred cats, mixed-breed kittens are not worth much. Purebred British blue cats can cost around $500 to $800 USD, and purebred silver chinchillas can range from $250 to $2000 USD. However, the price of silver chinchilla and British blue mixes is only around $30 to $60 USD.

Important Considerations for Breeding Silver Chinchillas

1. British blue cats have characteristics such as short fur, short limbs, short bodies, short tails, and short ears, which are likely to be inherited by mixed offspring. Therefore, when breeding, it is crucial to pay attention to the appearance of both parents.

2. If the British blue cat is male, it may pass on genetic diseases to the kittens, potentially leading to heart conditions. This condition carries a high risk of sudden death. Hence, before breeding, it's vital to fully understand the health conditions of both male and female cats.Follow us for updates:Pet Training
