Whether you can bring your pet to a hotel for a 14-day quarantine depends on the local epidemic prevention department's regulations. If your pet cannot accompany you, it's best to arrange for someone to feed them regularly; otherwise, your dog may not be able to care for itself.
Policies vary by location, and arrangements for whether quarantined individuals can bring their pets with them also differ. For example, in January 2021, when some residents in Huangpu District, Shanghai, were required to undergo centralized quarantine, they were allowed to bring their pets to the designated hotels; however, there have also been instances where pets were not allowed to quarantine with their owners.
As the pandemic has progressed, although government policies may not address every aspect, they have become increasingly comprehensive. Many regions have implemented more humane management policies. For instance, when the epidemic was severe in Shenzhen, some residents in Shangshatangyan Village in Futian District had to be relocated for collective quarantine. To address the pet care needs of these residents, Shenzhen established two pet shelters to care for their pets. These shelters aim to reduce the burden on pet owners during quarantine and ensure that their furry friends receive proper attention and care. The establishment of such shelters shows the commitment of local authorities towards comprehensive and humane responses during health crises.
What to Do if You Can't Bring Your Dog to Quarantine
1. If you have enough food stored, provide at least two weeks' worth of food and drinking water. This will ensure that your pet has sustenance until you return from quarantine. It's also advisable to give your house key to a trusted friend and ask them to check on your pet's well-being and food supply periodically.
2. Many pet stores offer boarding services. You can pay to board your pet at a nearby pet store. Ensure you have the contact information of the pet store manager so you can monitor your pet's condition and contact them if your quarantine is extended or any emergencies arise. This allows you to have some peace of mind during your time away. The advantage of boarding is that the pet will be cared for by trained staff who can monitor their health and social well-being.Learn more:Pet Grooming
