It's generally not recommended to give away a 20-day-old Bedlington Terrier. At this very young age, the puppy hasn't been weaned yet, its immune system is still developing, and it's quite vulnerable. Introducing a 20-day-old puppy into a new home can easily lead to illness. It’s best to wait until the puppy is around a month and a half old before considering giving it away.
A 20-day-old Bedlington Terrier puppy is simply too young to be separated from its mother and littermates. These puppies are still in the crucial early stages of development, often not fully weaned, and might not yet be eating solid puppy food independently. The sudden change in environment can cause significant stress and trigger an immune response in such a young puppy. A 20-day-old puppy’s ability to regulate its body temperature and its overall resistance to illness is still very weak. This vulnerability makes them prone to catching infections easily. It is far better to wait until the puppy is around six weeks old, or one and a half months, and is comfortably eating puppy food. This ensures the puppy can take in the nutrition it needs on its own. When rehoming a puppy, it’s advisable to prepare all of its essentials in advance: this includes its food, a suitable bed, feeding bowls, and anything else it may need. When you transfer ownership of a puppy, try to include familiar items from its previous home, such as a favorite toy, a blanket, or something with the scent of its mother or siblings, as these can assist the puppy to adapt to its new environment. Furthermore, make sure to have an open and thorough conversation with the new owner, provide all information concerning feeding habits, health specifics, and general care instructions to make the transition much easier for the young pup.
