How Much Does a White Chinchilla Cost?

White chinchillas are quite rare and typically cost upwards of 4000 RMB.

The pure white chinchilla, also known as a 'lanigera,' originates from the Andes Mountains of South America. They thrive in dry and cool environments. While the price of a pure white chinchilla starts at around 4000 RMB, they are not always readily available, and their acquisition often depends on luck more than financial resources. Pure white chinchillas are essentially a special type of silver mosaic chinchilla, but their price can be several times higher. The recessive gene for gray in chinchillas is strong; hence, the chances of it not appearing in the fur are very slim, further contributing to the rarity and high market price of pure white chinchillas. Their scarcity is the main factor influencing their high cost, making them a sought-after pet.

Caring for Your Chinchilla: A Beginner's Guide

Chinchillas should never be bathed in water. Instead, they require specialized sand or dust baths, typically every three to four days. Chinchillas are naturally timid, so new owners must be patient while they acclimate to their new surroundings. It is advisable to avoid taking them outside during the first week. They should always have access to fresh, clean water such as purified or cooled boiled water. Water bottles should be cleaned every other day to prevent bacterial growth. Chinchillas are prone to calcium deficiencies during seasonal changes, which may manifest as whitening of their teeth. Therefore, ensure they receive adequate calcium supplementation. In addition to their regular diet of feed and hay, chinchillas can enjoy treats such as small pieces of apple or carrot in moderation. Overfeeding should be avoided. If a chinchilla develops constipation, indicated by small, dry, and dark droppings, giving it a small amount of applesauce or mashed banana can help. If they exhibit soft stools, adding a small amount of a probiotic like 'Mommy's Love' to their water can help alleviate the issue. However, for more severe health issues, it is recommended to seek treatment from a specialized exotic pet veterinarian.Related resource:Pet Training
