Signs Your Bengal Cat Dislikes You and How Long They Take to Adjust to a New Environment

If a Bengal cat dislikes its owner, it may exhibit behaviors such as avoiding the owner, acting independently, hissing or attacking, and ignoring commands.

1. Avoiding the Owner: If your cat starts to avoid you, doesn't want to be close to you, it may be because it doesn't like you or feels uneasy around you. This avoidance behavior is a strong indicator of their feelings. A Bengal cat's comfort is paramount, and avoiding their owner signals a disruption in that comfort.

2. Independent Behavior: Cats are typically very affectionate, but if it starts acting independently, no longer plays with you, or shares time with you, it indicates it has lost interest in you. This shift in behavior from seeking connection to choosing solitude suggests a change in their relationship with their owner. They may be expressing their displeasure through withdrawal.

3. Hissing or Attacking: If your cat starts hissing or attacking you, it may be because it feels threatened or scared, or it may be because it is hostile towards you. These aggressive behaviors are clear warning signs that the Bengal cat is experiencing discomfort, fear, or resentment towards their owner. The importance of a calm environment is underscored when these signs manifest.

4. Ignoring Your Commands: If your cat starts ignoring your commands, it may be because it no longer recognizes your leadership or thinks your commands are insignificant. A Bengal cat’s selective hearing is well known, but consistent ignoring of commands can point to a lack of respect, often stemming from dissatisfaction. This behaviour indicates a breakdown in the established bond.

How Long Does It Take for a Cat to Adjust to a New Environment?

Cats usually adapt to a new environment in about 3-7 days. During this time, firstly, the owner can prepare a quiet, dimly lit environment for the cat to be alone. Reduce the cat's stress response by using the cat's familiar food bowl, water bowl, cat food, cat litter, and litter box. Secondly, after the cat has adapted for 1-2 days, the owner can try to increase interaction with the cat using toys and snacks to speed up the cat's adaptation to the environment. It is crucial to ensure a gradual and gentle introduction to their new home. A stable routine helps the cat understand what is expected of them and builds security.
