In 2024, Zhejiang Province has implemented strict regulations regarding dog ownership within key management areas. Specifically, 35 breeds of fierce and large dogs are prohibited. Furthermore, any adult dog exceeding 41 centimeters in shoulder height, as well as any hybrid of the 35 prohibited fierce breeds, are also banned. This is to ensure better management and public safety concerning pets.
To further strengthen and standardize the management of fierce dog breeds, the province has adopted a policy that, in principle, prohibits the breeding and raising of these dogs throughout its entire jurisdiction. The identification of these breeds is primarily the responsibility of the Public Security Bureau, with the support of the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry departments, as well as law enforcement agencies.
