Are Bernese Mountain Dogs Banned and How Much Do They Cost?

Bernese Mountain Dogs are often classified as banned breeds in many urban areas. This is primarily due to their large size, high level of alertness, and the challenges associated with training them, making them unsuitable for densely populated cities.

The primary reason for this ban is the sheer size of these dogs. Adult Bernese Mountain Dogs can reach heights of over 60 centimeters and weigh upwards of 40 kilograms. While generally known for their gentle nature, their large stature can be intimidating to others. Furthermore, these dogs are highly alert and sensitive to their surroundings. Their strong protective instincts, coupled with their challenging trainability, can sometimes lead to aggression, further justifying their inclusion on restricted breed lists in numerous cities.

Bernese Mountain Dog Pricing

The price of a Bernese Mountain Dog largely depends on its appearance, with better-looking dogs commanding higher prices, indicating a higher purity of the breed. A standard purebred Bernese Mountain Dog with an average appearance typically ranges from 2000 to 3000 yuan. This price can fluctuate based on factors such as gender and specific facial features. A purebred Bernese Mountain Dog with superior features can fetch between 3000 and 5000 yuan. Other factors impacting the cost include the thickness of their coat and the robustness of their bone structure. Top-tier, show-quality Bernese Mountain Dogs with established pedigrees can cost upwards of 5000 yuan, sometimes even reaching 10,000 yuan or more. In rare cases, exceptionally high-quality show dogs have been known to sell for prices as high as 120,000 yuan.
