Is it Allowed to Own a Great Pyrenees in Huai'an? And How Much Does One Cost?

It is generally not permitted to own a Great Pyrenees in Huai'an. This is because these dogs are classified as large breeds, and their presence in densely populated urban areas can easily cause public concern. Furthermore, Great Pyrenees are known to be protective of their owners and possess a certain level of aggression, making them unsuitable for urban environments.

The ban on owning Great Pyrenees in Huai'an is primarily due to the following reasons:

Physical Size

Adult Great Pyrenees typically weigh between 40 and 60 kilograms, with some reaching up to 150 kilograms. Their large size not only poses challenges for pet owners but can also cause apprehension and misunderstanding in public places. Therefore, Huai'an prohibits the keeping of Great Pyrenees.

Aggressive Potential

Despite their gentle and docile appearance, Great Pyrenees still possess a certain degree of aggression. Their sharp claws and exceptionally sharp teeth are capable of easily crushing bone joints or tearing flesh. Conflicts with people could lead to severe consequences.

Sensitive Temperament

Great Pyrenees are naturally sensitive and wary, and are easily disturbed by external environmental factors. Car horns, firecrackers, and construction noises can easily startle them, causing them to become uncontrollable, run amok, bite or bark excessively. This makes them inherently unsuitable for densely populated urban areas, thus placing them on the prohibited list of pets.

How Much Does a Great Pyrenees Cost?

Generally, the most common Great Pyrenees, without any pedigree papers, are the cheapest, with prices starting around 1000 RMB. However, it’s not recommended to purchase a dog without pedigree documents, as they lose the essential value and meaning of owning this breed. Pet-quality Great Pyrenees typically cost between 1500 and 2500 RMB. Purebred Great Pyrenees generally cost around 3000 RMB, while show-quality dogs can range from 3000 to 10,000 RMB. Exceptional show-quality dogs can cost even more.
