Fake Ragdoll cats may share some visual similarities with genuine Ragdolls, but they are not the real deal. Their coat colors may be non-existent or different from those found in true Ragdolls. Individuals without sufficient knowledge or experience in raising Ragdolls might easily get confused. To distinguish a fake Ragdoll, it's crucial to understand the characteristics of a genuine Ragdoll cat.
Key Characteristics of Authentic Ragdoll Cats
1. **Coat Colors:** Genuine Ragdolls have specific color patterns and variations. They come in seal, lynx, and pointed patterns, with base colors including black, chocolate, red, blue, lilac, and cream. Any cat with colors outside these parameters is likely not a pure Ragdoll.
2. **Lynx Pattern Details:** Lynx Ragdolls, with their tabby-like stripes, can sometimes be mistaken for Maine Coons or other long-haired tabby cats. However, authentic Lynx Ragdolls have a distinct 'M' marking on their forehead, light-colored circles around their eyes, and a black outline around their pink nose. These specific markings are key identifiers.
3. **Color Point Patterns:** Ragdolls have six distinct color point patterns: mitted, high-mitted, mid-high white, pointed, bi-color, and van. Mitted Ragdolls have white paws and chins. High-mitted, mid-high white, and bi-color patterns are very similar in appearance. Pointed Ragdolls lack sharply defined color blocks all over their body, and van Ragdolls only have color on their ears and tail. Any variations outside these patterns could be a sign of a fake Ragdoll.
4. **Head Shape and Eye Color:** Ragdolls have a wedge-shaped head, medium-sized ears, and large, round, bright blue eyes that are set wide apart. The eyes of a Ragdoll MUST be blue, varying only in shade from light to deep. These eye shades are categorized into six grades.
