Female cats may meow incessantly at night and exhibit behaviors like being excessively clingy or presenting their rear. Male cats may spray urine to mark territory and attempt to escape to find a mate. It's highly recommended to spay or neuter your cat after it reaches 6 months old and after their heat cycle is over. American Shorthairs do go through an "awkward" or teenage phase, typically starting around 5 months of age, though in some cases it might start later. This phase usually lasts for 2 to 4 months. During this time, it's beneficial to feed your cat a highly nutritious diet, such as canned cat food, fish, shrimp, raw beef, egg yolks, and nutritional supplements. This will assist in developing their facial features.
