Will a Parrot Die After Using a Hair Dryer? Bathing Precautions for Parrots

Generally, a parrot won't die from being dried with a hair dryer, but it can easily catch a cold. Therefore, when using a hair dryer, choose the low heat setting and make sure to keep your parrot warm afterward.

While using a hair dryer is not usually fatal, it can make your parrot susceptible to catching a chill. A hair dryer works by combining a set of heating coils with a small, high-speed fan. When electricity flows through the coils, they produce heat. The fan then blows air across the heated coils, creating warm air. If only the fan is running and the coils aren't heated, it will blow just cool air. The air from a hair dryer is dry. Prolonged use can easily lead to moisture loss and heat damage. To minimize harm, it’s best to pat the bird's feathers dry with a towel first, gently smooth them with your hand, and then use the hair dryer.

Parrot Bathing Precautions

1. There's no need to prepare warm water for your parrot's bath. Room temperature water is generally fine. In the summer, you can rinse your parrot with tap water directly. During the winter, make sure the water temperature is above 20℃, similar to the temperature of the water your parrot drinks.

2. Usually, plain water is enough for a parrot’s bath, whether it’s a rinse or a "tub bath". There's no need to use shampoo or body wash. Parrots will clean their feathers themselves and shake off the water after their bath to dry their plumage.Related resource:Pet Training
