Do Whippets Hold Grudges After Being Hit? Why They Might Become More Aggressive

Whippets generally do not hold grudges after being hit, but if they are frequently or severely beaten, they may harbor resentment towards their owners. This resentment can manifest in retaliatory behaviors such as inappropriate urination and defecation inside the house. The experience of being hit is painful, and this memory can stay with a Whippet for its entire life, emphasizing the importance for owners to avoid hitting or verbally abusing them.

Typically, a Whippet won't hold a grudge after a minor scolding or a light hit. They may quickly forget about the incident. However, everything has its limits. If an owner constantly hits their dog, and each time does so with significant force, causing harm, the Whippet will likely hold a grudge.

A resentful dog might engage in various retaliatory actions, such as urinating and defecating indoors, destroying furniture, or even becoming aggressive towards their owner. These painful memories of being hit can be deeply ingrained in a dog’s mind, leading to periodic acts of revenge against their owner.

During the raising process, it is crucial for owners to avoid hitting their Whippets. When they misbehave, resorting to beating and scolding will not force them to submit; instead, it can cause both physical and psychological harm, leading to fear and estrangement from their owner.

Why Do Dogs Become More Aggressive When Hit?

Dogs may become more aggressive when hit due to fear, low obedience, and a desire for revenge. It is generally not recommended for owners to use physical violence when training their dogs, particularly during the early stages of their relationship. If a dog misbehaves, owners can use methods such as placing them in their crate or verbal reprimands. Conversely, if the dog follows commands or corrects their mistakes, it should be rewarded.
