Is a Long-Haired Blue Cat a Bad Breed or a Mixed Breed?

A long-haired blue cat is not indicative of a poor breed, nor is it necessarily a mixed breed. The long-haired blue cat is an independent breed, also known as the Nebelung cat. This cat boasts beautiful fur and an overall high aesthetic appeal.

Long-haired blue cats are not the same as purebred blue cats. Blue cats typically include breeds like the British Shorthair, Russian Blue, and Chartreux, all of which are short-haired. This long-haired blue cat, also called the Nebelung, is a relatively new breed characterized by its beautiful, shimmering silver-blue coat. In German, its name translates to "creature of the mist". In the early 1980s, a woman named Cora Cobb gave her son a black, short-tailed cat. When this cat mated with a Russian Blue male, one of the kittens born had long blue fur. The Nebelung was recognized as a new breed by The International Cat Association in 1987 and later by the American Cat Fanciers Association. However, it has yet to receive formal recognition from the CFF or the CFA as a whole.
